Q1:Are the data ports powered from the usb or the power supply? the amp draw of what i need to plug in is too great for my computer's usb port?

A:From either; from the hub while its cord is receiving power from an outlet, when not, from the usb data port of the main device.

Q2:If connected to my pc, can i use it to run all 4 ports at once? i.e joystick, mouse, headset, pedals?

A:Not if you the total power required > 5 mA. The power adaptor DOES NOTHING to help the normal (blue) ports. Nothing; it only affects the “smart charger." When the power to blue ports dips below what is needed, any connected HDDs will be damaged, maybe permanently.
